Obituary For Gaines B Williams II

Gaines Bethel Williams II, 85, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and loved ones.

Born on July 4, 1939, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Gaines was the beloved son of Berniece Hatch and Gaines Bethel Williams. He was a proud graduate of Crispus Attucks High School, where his love of sports and leadership began to shine—especially on the basketball court.

Throughout his life, Gaines built a career rooted in hard work and dedication. He worked at RCA and Peerless Pump, and later served as a warehouse manager for Addison Wesley Publishing, where he was respected for his diligence and professionalism.

Gaines had many passions. He was an avid sports fan, a skilled basketball player, and a judo instructor who enjoyed sharing his knowledge and discipline with others. He also found peace and joy in the outdoors through fishing and hunting. Above all, Gaines was a devoted member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses, actively living out his faith and values.

Gaines is survived by his sons, Gaines Bethel Williams III and Rodrick Williams, from his first marriage to Vera Williams. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, who will remember him with deep love and admiration. His loved ones included his siblings Francise Johnson, Rosie Curiton and Lonnie Williams as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved second wife, Wilma Williams.

Gaines will be remembered for his strength, sense of humor, love for his family, and unwavering faith. His legacy lives on through those who loved him and learned from him.

“He has fought the fine fight, he has run the race to the finish, he has observed the faith.”– 2 Timothy 4:7
