Arthur Dean Wilson Jr., the eldest child of Arthur Dean and Arnelia (Oneal) Wilson, was born on March 8, 1955, in Mound City, Illinois.
Arthur accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church through Candlelight Church in Waukegan, Illinois. He continued to uphold his Christian faith and was a member of North United Methodist Church.
Arthur lived in Illinois and Ohio with his mother and siblings during his formative and childhood years. The family later moved to Indianapolis, where he attended Shortridge High School. After graduating from Shortridge High School, he went on to attend Vincennes University in Indiana. It was during this time that Arthur embarked on what would become one of his proudest accomplishments: serving in the United States Air Force.
While serving in the military, Arthur had the privilege of living in various states—both hot and cold—across the country, as well as abroad in Turkey. He earned the rank of Staff Sergeant (E5) and obtained an associate’s degree from Saint Leo College. Arthur was honorably discharged in 1988 after a decade of service to his country.
After completing his military service, he pursued several career paths. He served as a civil servant at the United States Army Finance and Accounting Command (now known as DFAS) and at the United States Postal Service. He also worked in the private sector as a heavy machine operator.
Reflecting the adventurous spirit of his military days, Arthur enjoyed exploring the city on foot and by bus, always meeting new people, discovering new foods to try, and occasionally finding himself in lively situations.
Arthur was affectionately known by some for his catchphrase, “Shut up!” as he wandered around familiar places and encountered familiar faces.
When the COVID-19 pandemic changed the world, Arthur found a new way to explore it—through Facebook—where he could be found at any hour of the day checking in with family and friends, posting random comments, and genuinely enjoying connecting with old faces, new faces, as well as new places and things.
Arthur embraced everyone he met throughout the years, never meeting a stranger. Whether with a drink in hand or not, being with him meant you were in for the time of your life. His warm smile and cheerful energy drew people close, making life feel richer for those who knew him. His infectious smile, quick wit, and grateful spirit were loved by many.
Arthur consistently chose to live life to its fullest at every opportunity while navigating life’s challenges. He loved spending time with his family, trying exotic foods, gardening, celebrating Christmas, and appreciating the nicer things in life with a humble nature.
Arthur Dean Wilson Jr. departed this life on July 28, 2024, at the age of 69. He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Dean Wilson Sr., and his mother, Arnelia Wilson.
Arthur leaves to cherish his memory, his brothers, Vincent Wilson and Douglas Wilson; his sister, Kelly Pickett; his niece and nephew, Megan Pickett and Marcus Pickett; his aunts, Marcella Adams and Beulah Jones; his uncle, William Oneal; along with a host of cousins, friends, and associates.
Arthur Dean will be dearly missed by his devoted siblings, loving family, and dear friends.
