Obituary For Ronald (Ronnie) Smith

Ronald Burton Smith passed away on March 17, 2024, in Lagrange, Georgia, at the age of 90. Ronald was born on February 13, 1934, in Mulga, Alabama.

Ronald spent the best 62-plus years of his life with his best friend and wife, Mary Louise Dunagan Smith. He had a devoted daughter, Jenifer, and an ardent son-in-law, Rob Ewing. He was also blessed with one grandchild, Ryver Ewing (Rebecca).

He was preceded in death by his mother, Kathleen, his father, Grover, his Uncle Charles Reynolds, and his eldest daughter, Melissa Smith.

Ronald grew up in Lanett, Alabama and was active in sports throughout high school. He was a proud graduate of Auburn University where he excelled as a gymnast and served in the ROTC. He continued his ROTC commitment. He served as an officer in the tank division at Ft. Benning. After his active duty he continued his service in the US Army reserves. Ronald Smith worked for West Point Pepperell and Batson Cook until his retirement.

Ronald was a community servant leader. He chaired and served on many boards, such as the Red Cross, United Way, and New Ventures, and held leadership roles within his church. He was a firm believer and had a resolute faith.

Ronald Burton Smith will be remembered for his enduring love for his family, his dedication to hard work, and his appreciation for life's simple pleasures. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, resilience, and happiness that will be treasured by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Ronald was a member of Wesley Methodist Church of LaGrange. Pastor Liz Millar will lead a graveside service at 1:30 on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at Marseilles Cemetery 400-498 E 12th St, West Point, Georgia.
