Obituary For Leroy “Kill D” Summers

Mr. Leroy Summers was born on December 7, 1935 to the late Mrs. Hurston. He departed this life on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at his residence in Lanett, AL.

Our beloved “Kill D” was a graduate of Lanier High School, class of 1954. After graduation, he served in the United States Army where he had the opportunity to serve our country.

“Kill D” later became a paper delivery man for The Atlanta Journal for 20 plus years and he then became a delivery driver for the local Valley Times News Company where he worked diligently until retirement.

“Kill D” was a member of the Pilgrim Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday School teacher (before his failing eyesight) and a faithful Deacon. He loved his church family and especially his pastor (Dr. James) and could be clearly heard in the deacon corner saying his favorite phrase “SAY IT TODAY.”

Leroy was married to the late Ruby Dean Summers and to this union three sons were born, two of whom preceded him in death.

Leroy leaves to cherish his memories a supportive son, Michael (Tammy) Summers; one granddaughter, Porsha Summers Howell; two grandsons, William LeBron Howell and Michael
McCants; 24 great grandchildren; two sisters, Minnie Hutchinson and Lizzie Pearl Clark; four sisters-in-law, Alvree “Bo” Welch, Carrie Wilson, Jelizabeth (Rev. Arthur) Jackson, and Mattie Carlton; three brothers-in-law, Ralph Cofield, Rev. Benny Lee Tucker, and Rev. Curtis Johnson; his “special caregiver” which was his beloved niece, Jacinta “JJ” Truitt, known affectionately as, “Cina”, to him along with several other nieces and nephews; cousins, Leatrice Higgins, Beatrice Ware, Dorothy Barnes, Donald Edmonson nd Iverria Henderson; special friends, Mr. George Melton, Mr. Godfrey Greenwood and Mr. Willie Murray along with an array of other friends and family.

Funeral Services for Mr. Leroy “Kill D” Summers will be held on Thursday, May 9, 2024 at 11:00 am in the sanctuary of the Pilgrim Baptist Church, 420 North 12th Avenue, Lanett, AL with Rev. Dr. Fredrick James serving as the eulogist.

Interment will follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery, 3202 Country Club Road, Lanett, AL.

Public viewing will held on Wednesday, May 8, 2024 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the mortuary.
