SPARTANBURG – Mrs. Bessie S. Young, 81, peacefully entered rest on April 4, 2014 at the Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. She was the daughter of the late Walter and Willie Sawyer. Bessie was born on April 9, 1932 in Fairfield County, South Carolina. Bessie joined First Baptist Church of Fairforest an early age and was baptized, Mrs. Young later joined Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church where she sang with the Senior Choir and was member of the Missionary Society. Mrs. Young was a 1947 graduate of Lincoln High School. Bessie received a Certified Nursing Certificate where she worked in the field for several years. Left to cherish fond and loving memories are: her children; Pastor Lewis W. (Doris) Young, Jr. of Chino Hills, CA, Carrie Young Steele, Sandra (Larry) Young and James L. Young of Spartanburg, SC; nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis W. Young; son, Ronnie W. Young; daughter, Shirley A. Morris and son-in-law; Joseph V. Morris. A Celebration of the Life of Mrs. Bessie S. Young will be held on Sunday, April 13, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church. Rev. Dr. M. Keith McDaniel, Sr. will officiate. Interment will be held at Lincoln Memorial Gardens. Family will receive friends at the home of her daughters; Sandra Young Johnson, 114 Austin Street, Spartanburg, SC and Carrie Young Steele, 353 Amherst Drive, Spartanburg, SC. J.W.
