"Ships that pass in the night, and speak each other in passing, Only a signal shown and a distant voice in the darkness; So on the ocean of life we pass and speak one another, Only a look and a voice, then darkness again and a silence." โ€”Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (Part III, The Theologian's Tale: Elizabeth Section IV) To my sister Barbara, Who knew when we exchanged greetings on Sunday mornings at Pilgrim Baptist Church, when you were an adult and I a gangly teen, that you were my sister and I your brother. We were two ships passing. You would nod, and I would return a shy teen boy's smile. And so for several years we were merely ships passing. Isn't it ironic that in your passing from life to life eternal rest we can celebrate that we are siblings and not just passing vessels on the sea of life.
