Damon professed a hope in Christ at an early age at Greater Elim Missionary Baptist Church, where he accepted his call into the ministry at the age of sixteen years old. He also met his beautiful and loving wife of 25 years, Tamica, at Greater Elim. Damon was a member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, where he gained his ministerial training before accepting his role into Pastoralship. Pastor Love was the proud shepherd, overseer, and leader of New Journey Empowerment Church, where he was dedicated to God, ministry, and his members until his illness. He was an anointed man of God who transformed lives through his teaching and preaching. A great example of a man who followed God all the way up to his heavenly departure.
Pastor Love always had a love for public safety and serving others, as he never met a stranger. He was blessed throughout his life to have various careers at Wayne Township Fire Department, Marion County Sheriff Department, and most recently, a salesman at Champion Chrysler Jeep Ram of Indianapolis. In his free time, he spent many years coaching and mentoring youth football within the Avon community football program. One of his most exciting and rewarding things to do in life was to spend quality time with his wife of 25 years, children, and family who all meant the world to him.
Pastor Love leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Tamica Love; children, Damon Love, Jr., Darian Love, Destiny Love, and Jalen Love; sisters, Nina Fitzgerald, Bridgette Love, Nanette Highbaugh, Margaret Harrell, and Jounice Hensel; brother, Keith Highbaugh; grandchildren, Jaylee Dalton, Avery Love, and Hayden Love; New Journey Empowerment Church members; and a host of aunts, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Love; and brother, Michael Highbaugh, Jr.
