Visitation for family and friends will be held at Carter Funeral Home Friday, April 22, 2016 from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Celebration of Life Services will be held Saturday, April 23, 2016 at 11:00 AM from the sanctuary of Pine Grove Baptist Church, Post Oak Community.
Interment will follow in the Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
Ree Johnnie Burney was born the ninth of ten children to the union of Raz Arnold and Lilla Cobb-Arnold on August 26, 1936, in Midway, AL.
Johnnie, as she was know to all, accepted Christ, at an early age, as her savior at Great Hope A.M.E. Zion Church in Midway, AL. She was a member of Bethal Baptist Church in Montgomery, AL for many years before transferring her membership to Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Pine Grove, AL.
She was united in holy matrimony to Hoover Thomas Burney on October 16th, 1957. To that union was born two sons, Hoover Jr. and Cedrick.
Johnnie served her country for over thirty years as a dedicated civil servant at Maxwell AFB in Montgomery, AL. Johnnie was preceded in death by her father, Raz Arnold; mother, Lilla Cobb-Arnold; husband, Hoover; sons, Hoover Jr. and Cedrick; daughter, Renee Broadnax; grandson, Steven Broadnax; brothers, James Thomas, Aaron Arnold, Eddie Arnold McMillion and Eugene Arnold; sisters, Comilla Arnold-King, Georgia Mae Arnold-Fountain, Geraldine Arnold-Green and Ruth Arnold-Walker.
She suddenly departed this life on April 18, 2016 after a short illness.
She leaves to cherish many fond memories to: Sister Annie Kate, Penny (Sanford) Pipkin, daughter, Chlora Evans, a devoted niece, Darlene A. Tarver, four grandchildren Nicholas, Tracy, Dawn and DaƱetta Evans, three great-grandchildren, Janiya Evans, Haleigh Johnson and Jamia Wright; a great-niece, Sabrena Tarver; two cousins, Clifford and Steve McGowan; one God-daughter, Leontyne (Oneal) Pringle; many other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; a host of other relatives, friends, coworkers, and the Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church Family.
