Ms. Rolle worked at the Finance Center before beginning her career with Indianapolis Public Schools. She worked in IPS school system for 36 years and taught at School #23, Arlington and Attucks High Schools. In 1995, she retired as the Chair of Home Economics at Broad Ripple High School. Post-retirement she continued teaching at Arsenal Technical High School Day-Adult Division. She was a member of Oasis, an avid water aerobics student, and volunteer usher with the Clowes’ Memorial Hall Womens’ Council.
Hilda loved Indianapolis. She lived, taught, and was resident of the Butler/Tarkington neighborhood on Indianapolis’ north side for 50 years.
Granddaughter of Bishop G. T. Haywood, she was affectionately known as Sis. Hilda. As a member of Christ Temple Apostolic Faith Assembly in Indianapolis (from birth) she served as a Sunday school teacher for many years. She was an active member in the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World, Inc. and other affiliated Pentecostal organizations throughout her lifetime. She was involved locally, nationally, and internationally.
In 1971, she was introduced to Elder John Livingston Rolle, Sr. of the Bahama Islands and the two were married at the Christ Temple Apostolic Church. They were married 37 years until his passing in 2008. The couple together founded and served as pastor and wife of Church of the Lord Jesus’ Temple for 27 years in Brazil, IN. Together, they had two children. Mrs. Rolle, a charter member of New Wineskins Ministries, a teacher, and an active participant in her community. She also worked in her congregation’s food pantry and their charity for infants and new mothers knitting blankets, socks and little caps for them.
Mrs. Hilda Yvonne Ellis Rolle, 86, passed from this life to be with the Lord on October 27, 2020 while in Detroit, MI. She was preceded in death by her loving husband: John L. Rolle, Sr.; stepdaughter, Mrs. Elaurean Davis; stepson, Mr. Ted Nelson Rolle; her parents: Robert C. Ellis and Fannie A. Haywood Ellis; and siblings: Mr. Robert H. Ellis, Mrs. Francis Russell, and Mrs. Ida Cooper.
Mrs. Hilda E. Rolle leaves to cherish her love and legacy: son, Mr. John L. Rolle, Jr. (Indianapolis, IN); daughter, Ms. Sibyl A. Rolle (Virgin Islands); granddaughter, Ehren-Bennet Brewster Rolle (Oriental, NC) and 6 stepchildren: Misters Joseph and John Manfred of (Indianapolis, IN), and Thomas Rolle (Nassau, Bahamas), Ms. Sarah E. Rolle, Mrs. Laurean MacFee (Nassau, Bahamas), Mrs. Sherrilyn Rolle (Miami, FL) , and Mrs. Princess (Bethel); a brother, Mr. John G. Ellis; the Bowdan Family; host of nieces, nephews, cousins, students, co-workers and friends along with the Christ Temple Apostolic Faith Assembly and New Wineskins Ministries.
